Foundations

Economic development. Empowering particular demographics. Commitment to making the world a better place. Job creation. Addressing societal challenges.

Does the mission of your foundation connect to any of the above? If yes, Global Entrepreneurship Monitor can help you deliver on your foundation’s objectives.

Stakeholders increasingly need hard, robust and credible data to make key decisions that stimulate sustainable forms of entrepreneurship and promote healthy entrepreneurial ecosystems worldwide. To capture a complete picture of an entrepreneurial ecosystem, it is important to go beyond official statistics, like the number of registered businesses. Stakeholders need to understand on the ground perceptions about entrepreneurship. Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) is the only global research source that collects data directly from the source – entrepreneurs.

Case Study

For over 25 years, we have helped foundations achieve their goals by providing insights and data thatdrive effective decision-making and impactful strategies.

Among the many examples is Cartier Women’s Initiative, an annual international entrepreneurship programme which aims to drive change by empowering women impact entrepreneurs. At the heart of the Cartier Women’s Initiative is the vision of a world where every woman impact entrepreneur can realise her full potential. Cartier Women’s Initiative partnered with GEM as it was in search of a partner to track, monitor and assess women entrepreneurship activities. This is critical for driving collaboration and enrolling more support for women entrepreneurs.

Another example is The Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi), a financial intermediary facility (FIF) housed in the World Bank Group. The groundbreaking partnership aims to unlock financing for women-led/ owned businesses (WSMEs) in developing countries. Sponsoring GEM research provided We-Fi with an overview of the gaps in the current entrepreneurial landscape.

GEM research insights are incredibly valuable especially as it pertains to a global perspective. As a global program ourselves, we find that there are many reflections that can be shared and cross-fertilized from one region to another. How might we build an inclusive entrepreneurship ecosystem globally?  Which elements are best guided by local infrastructure, and which elements are needed on a global basis? GEM research informs and guides our own collaboration efforts, as well as provides some direction on how to expand and grow our program
